Gal Gadot Teases Deadpool 2's Ryan Reynolds About Stealing Wonder Woman's Look

The first full trailer for Deadpool 2 debuted last week and it teased another hilarious, meta, action-filled adventure featuring the Merc with a Mouth. At one point in the trailer, Deadpool christens his newly formed, ragtag team as X-Force and crosses his arms in front of him, forming an 'X'. Zazie Beetz's Domino remarks how derivative this is, a point Deadpool concedes. Well, Domino isn't the only one who noticed, as Gal Gadot also spotted some similarities to her superheroic alter ego. The actress took to social media to tease Ryan Reynolds about stealing Wonder Woman's look. Check it out below:

Wonder Woman making the X with her bracelets is one of the iconic images of the character so Gal Gadot certainly has a point. And given Wonder Woman's tenure as a character I would say she was probably doing it first. That said, Deadpool and Wonder Woman aren't the only characters crossing their arms like this in front of them either, all the cool kids are doing it. In Black Panther, T'Challa and the Wakandans do something similar, a gesture meaning 'Wakanda Forever', and given the popularity of that movie, that is becoming the agreed upon definition. The gesture has precedence in the X-verse as well, Wolverine has been making the symbol before clawing people to death for ages.

Now, if you want to get technical, each of these is a little different. While Deadpool is merely making a gesture dubbing his new team as X-Force, Wonder Woman crossing her bracelets is a defensive posture used in battle. But hey, crossing your arms in front of you, forming an 'X' just looks cool, and given that DC and Marvel are separate universes, no paradoxes will be created by this. Naturally, as a social media maven who blurs the line between himself and his character, Ryan Reynolds took the time to respond to Gal Gadot's Twitter accusation. Check it out.

Well said. I'm pretty sure that won't be the only larceny committed by Deadpool 2 either. I think it's a safe bet to assume that Deadpool 2 will have at least one reference, far more overt than this, to DC's most successful movie to date. There's no way a movie in this genre that is as popular as Wonder Woman will make it out of Deadpool 2 unscathed, so don't be surprised if we see Deadpool rocking a tiara at some point. Heck, maybe Gal Gadot is the secret cameo we've heard about. That has almost no chance of happening, but with Deadpool, things like continuity and seriousness are not a concern, so who knows.
