New Angry Birds 2 Trailer Has Birds And Pigs Teaming Up
When it comes to Angry Birds, most people are familiar with the general premise: birds don't like pigs because they steal eggs, and so they aim to take the oinkers down by launching themselves with a slingshot. The bird vs. pig conflict is at the center of the whole thing, which is why it's a bit surprising to see them fighting on the same side in this new trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 2.
Written by Peter Ackerman (The Americans), and the feature directorial debut of Adventure Time and Camp Lazlo! writer Thurop Van Orman, The Angry Birds 2 seems to start with the famous aforementioned animosity still in place, but things start to change when the birds and pigs are united against a common enemy. It's not really made clear in this trailer, but it seems that this common enemy is a different race of birds who are tired of living on their frozen wasteland of an island.
Many of the actors from the original are coming back, including Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage, but there are also a ton of newcomers joining the fray, including Rachel Bloom, Leslie Jones, Sterling K. Brown, Awkwafina, and Eugenio Derbez.
The first Angry Birds Movie, released in 2016, didn't exactly get the warmest reception from critics, but a sequel was definitely inevitable. Young audiences ate it up, having already been hooked on the brand courtesy of the popular mobile game, and the result was major box office success. Made with a $73 million budget, the film crossed the century mark in America with a $107.5 million gross - but that total balloons to $352.3 million when you also include all of the cash flowing in from foreign territories.
The Angry Birds Movie 2 won't exactly be following in the path of its predecessor, which got a May release when it hit theaters, but there may be significant chance for the sequel to hit even bigger when it comes out this summer. It's one of the few major movies coming out in the latter half of August this year, and that could lead to a lot of tickets being sold as parents try and figure out what the hell they should do with their kids in the weeks leading up to the start of the new school year.
This trailer has some funny moments, and the cast is certainly spectacular, so we'll just have to wait and see if The Angry Birds Movie 2 can outpace its predecessor in multiple areas. Sony Pictures Animation definitely hasn't been shy about promoting it, as this is our second full trailer, and there are still four months to go before the thing hits theaters. Perhaps they are just riding high on confidence following their big Oscar win for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse last year.

Captain Marvel Theory: Why Carol Changes Her Costume In The New Movie
Costume changes are all the rage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Superheroes from Captain America and Iron Man to Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man have altered their threads from movie to movie, with some characters -- who've been around since the earliest days -- sporting multiple looks that drastically evolve. We noticed that Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) sports two very different versions of her Captain Marvel costume in the first trailer for 2019's Captain Marvel, but some new information might explain why she does it.
The differences boil down to color, and a little bit about design. The two costumes in question are the green-and-grey, followed by the majestic red-and-blue (largely considered the signature Captain Marvel costume design).
Because we have months until the next MCU movie, we spent way too much time overanalyzing each frame of the Captain Marvel trailer, and tried to come up with the continuity of the movie based on key reveals. And I think the costume is an important indicator of where scenes occur in the movie, and why Brie Larson is wearing certain suits in the trailer, and the promo images.
I'm going to have to dig deep into what we know about Captain Marvel, so if you don't care to read an in-depth analysis of production, bail out now.
This discussion started when set photos of Brie Larson in her Captain Marvel suit appeared online. Carol Danvers (Larson) confronts a man who appears to be homeless, and by the time she's finished, he is bowing down at her feet.
But fans didn't notice that. They picked up on Carol's green-emphasis suit. Rumors swirled at the time that the green is practical for filming when on a physical set, and that it could be properly colorized in post. To a certain extent that makes sense... only, Carol was still wearing the green suit when she popped up in the new trailer.
So, the green suit is part of the movie. But so is the red-and-blue -- which also is featured prominently on the movie's poster. That will be Carol's suit. And there will be a reason. More on that in a second.
Carol's wearing the green suit in scenes that we believe will take place in the early stages of the movie. Marvel President Kevin Feige has said that Captain Marvel will not be a traditional origin story, in that our hero will already have her powers when the movie starts. Carol, we understand, will arrive on Earth on some mission -- crashing down into a Blockbuster Video in the 1990s -- and will come to realize that she had a past on this planet... even though she has been fighting in the galaxies as part of the Kree warriors for years.
Here's where our theory starts to take real shape. We recently reported that Marvel Comics is going to great lengths to change Carol's origin. In the original narrative, Carol is swept up in the explosion of a Kree device, and the alien force gives her her powers.
The comic makes an important change, that we believe will affect the movie, and even explain the costume change from green to red. In the new Marvel Comics run of Carol Danvers stories, there's still an explosion. But rather than just giving Carol powers, the Kree blast awakens genes that already were inside of her, instead of randomizing the power trigger. Carol was born to be a Kree fighter... because her mother was a Kree, as well.
What?!
It's an interesting twist, having Carol be the child of a human and a Kree. It gives her a bond to both worlds (and yes, this draws a little from the Superman narrative, who had both alien parents and human parents, giving him loyalty and allegiance to two worlds). And it goes a long way to explaining the casting of Annette Bening in Captain Marvel. Because most reports say that Bening will be playing Carol's mother in the movie.
And that means she's playing an alien Kree, and also the first Captain Marvel.
We're fully in speculation mode here. We have no clue what's going to play out in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's Captain Marvel movie. But the costume changes gave us a theory, and it goes something like this.
Carol Danvers is a veteran Kree warrior who arrives on Earth to track a Skrull (likely the grandmother that she punches on the train). She lands in Los Angeles, completes the mission (by punching the Skrull grandma), but is apprehended by a young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He tells Carol that she's part of a bigger world, while also learning from her that there's a whole galaxy of threats he might one day have to contend with. Fury begins to plot The Avengers Initiative.
Meanwhile, Carol can't shake the lingering feeling that she had a past on Earth. We see, in the trailer, shots of young Carol overcoming obstacles as she grew up, and entering the military where she trained to be an ace pilot.
One important person missing from the trailer is Annette Bening's character, but after the news of Marvel Comics tweaking Carol's origin to more directly involve her mother, it hit us. Bening will play the original Captain Marvel. The red-and-blue number will be her original outfit. And at some point in the movie, Carol will switch over to it to honor her legacy as the daughter of Captain Marvel.
Goosebumps.
Captain Marvel will be an important movie for Marvel Studios for numerous reasons. By most accounts, Carol Danvers will be the strongest fighter in the MCU, and her might is exactly what the Avengers will need to rectify what Thanos started in Avengers: Infinity War. There's a reason Fury texted her as he faded into dust during the Snappening.
But Captain Marvel also stands as the first solo Marvel story centered entirely around a female character, with all due respect to the strong female characters that Marvel Studios has introduced to this point. Having Carol stem from her mother, and wear her costume in tribute to that legacy, creates a very powerful subtext to the costume change that we see happen in Captain Marvel. Imagine the scene where Annette Bening passes the torch to Brie Larson by giving her the original costume?
Or, you know, it could just be a reason to sell more toys with alternate Captain Marvel costume designs.
But I don't think that is the case. I believe that Annette Bening is playing the ORIGINAL Captain Marvel in the MCU. And I believe that she'll pass her legacy on to Brie Larson, signified by the costume change from green to red and blue. It makes the costume change more significant, and way more emotional.

Ron Howard is about to release Solo: A Star Wars Story, but it turns out Star Wars isn't the only franchise he's been meeting with Lucasfilm to discuss. 30 years ago Ron Howard directed Willow based on a story by George Lucas, and the director recently revealed that he has had conversations about potentially making a sequel to the cult classic. I don't want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn't call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.
It makes a lot of sense. Any Willow sequel that went into production now would almost certainly need to be set decades after the original. At least if it expected to actually include the character played by Warwick Davis it would. As such, that also means that Elora Dana, the character who was as an infant in the first movie, will have grown up. Willow's plot revolved around a baby that was prophesized to defeat an evil queen, and while that has already taken place by the end of the movie, certainly anybody who did such a thing would continue to be an important person in the world. Elora Danan is the Harry Potter of her land, and she'd likely grow up with a lot of people expecting great things from her in much the same way. One also assumes that her connection to the man who saved her life would remain strong, which is why Willow as a character would remain important in a sequel.
Any serious fans of the Willow franchise know that there actually were sequels to the film already, in the form of a trilogy of novels written by Chris Claremont with George Lucas back in the 1990s. Those books did continue the story and saw Elora Danan grow up. However, it doesn't sound from what Ron Howard tells Comicbook.com that he's thinking of adapting those novels. This instead sounds like an entirely new idea, though one that simply goes in a similar direction.
It will be interesting to see what potentially comes of discussions around a Willow sequel. The original movie wasn't a massive hit, one of the reasons that theatrical sequels were never made, but it has certainly become a cult classic and as audiences have found the movie over time a strong following has built up around it, which perhaps means there are enough people interested in a sequel now that it could happen.

Will Nice Guys 2 Happen? Heres What The Producer Told Us
Sometimes even when a movie is welcomed with positive critical reception, it fails to perform well at the box office. Such was the case with 2016's The Nice Guys, which starred Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling as enforcer Jack Healy and private eye Holland March, respectively. The Shane Black-directed movie earned critical acclaim from reviewers, but it only made $62.8 million worldwide off a $50 million budget. Because of The Nice Guys' poor commercial performance, it appears unlikely that we'll ever get a sequel. Here's what producer Joel Silver had to say about the chances of The Nice Guys 2 actually happening:
I don't know about Nice Guys. It didn't really find an audience. I was here with Nice Guys, I loved the movie. but it didn't really do what it had to do. You never know.
Although Joel Silver is optimistic about finally get off Sherlock Holmes 3 off the ground, when CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell brought up The Nice Guys 2's prospects of moving forward to Silver at CinemaCon red carpet on behalf of Sony Pictures' upcoming Miss Bala, the producer didn't feel nearly as confident. Even though The Nice Guys brought in a lot of positive reviews, that ultimately didn't translate into financial success. When something like that happens, it's rare that studios are willing to invest in a follow-up, and it's worse for The Nice Guys since it didn't even break even. Silver didn't go so far as to say that The Nice Guys 2 will 100% never be made, but as things stand now two years after the first movie was released, the chances of Jack Healy and Holland March teaming up for another adventure are extremely slim.
Jack and Holland got off to a rough start when The Nice Guys began, but as the movie progressed as they built an amusing dynamic with the another, and by the end they formed their own private eye agency, appropriately called "The Nice Guys." It's a shame that we probably won't see the duo busting heads together again, because The Nice Guys was one of 2016's funnier movie offerings. Unfortunately, not enough people went to see it in theaters (Captain America: Civil War can be partly blamed for that), so unless Warner Bros decides to provide a second chance, don't get your hopes up for The Nice Guys 2. However, it's worth noting that The Nice Guys property is moving forward in a different incarnation, as Fox has given a series commitment to a female-led TV adaptation called The Nice Girls. It's not the same as having Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling back together, but maybe this concept can have better luck succeeding on the small screen than it did in a theatrical setting.
