DC Has A Plastic Man Movie In The Works

If you follow news about DC movies regularly, then you're well aware that there are a lot of projects in development for the DC Extended Universe. Seriously, a lot, as in nearly two dozen! Not all of these projects will see the light of day, but every now and then a new one is added to the mix, and today brings word that there's now a Plastic Man movie in the works. Talk about stretching yourself thin!

Warner Bros has tapped screenwriter Amanda Idoko to pen a Plastic Man movie, which is described as a "comedic action-adventure." No specific details about Idoko's Plastic Man story were revealed, but apparently her being hired caps off a six month-long search on Warner Bros part to find someone for the gig. According to sources who spoke with THR, Warner Bros is intending for this Plastic Man movie to stay "true to the light-hearted and even silly tones of the character." The project is still in the early stages, so there's no directed attached yet, but New Line's Bob Shaye will executive produce.

Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time that a Plastic Man movie has been in development. In the early 1990s, The Wachowskis wrote a Plastic Man script, and over a decade later, they planned to make it themselves and have it ready to go for a 2009 release. It was even rumored that Keanu Reeves would play the stretchy hero. Obviously this movie never happened, and rather than be self-contained, it sounds like this new Plastic Man movie will take place within the DCEU.

Plastic Man was introduced in 1941's Police Comics #1 from the Quality Comics imprint, but it wasn't until 1956 that he was acquired by DC Comics. Originally known as Eel O'Brien, he was a small-time criminal who was exposed to an unidentified chemical liquid while pulling off a late-night heist. This chemical gave Eel's body an elastic malleability, allowing him to stretch in all shapes and sizes, control his density and shapeshift, and other benefits of his strange physiology have included regeneration, invulnerability and aging at a far slower rate, if at all. However, his weaknesses include extremely temperatures (both cold and hot) and certain other chemicals.

While he's chiefly known for being comic relief within the DC universe, he is definitely among the most powerful heroes, and for a time he was a core member of the Justice League. Outside of the comics, Plastic Man led his own series, The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show, from 1979 to 1981, and he also popped up on Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice and Justice League Action.

As for Amanda Idoko, she's previously worked on the short-lived ABC series The Mayor, and her first feature film script, Breaking News in Yuba County, is beginning production soon. Evidently Warner Bros is confident in her ability to deliver a solid (rubbery?) Plastic Man tale, but we'll have to wait and see if this movie ends up moving forward That said, the prospect of Parks and Recreation's Ben Schwartz bringing Plastic Man to life sounds way too good to pass up.

The Lion King And 9 Other Movies With The Best Opening Scenes

They say that you only get one chance to make a first impression, and its no different for films. The opening scene can make or break a movie; have a great one and the rest of the movie almost doesnt matter, have a really great one and you are well on your way to an all-time classic.

It doesnt have to be a scene that is filled with intense action, though some of the best are. It can be funny or sad, or even ask a lot of questions, but it has to be memorable. It has to be the kind of scene that grabs you immediately and sucks you into the movie.

In todays media-filled world with a million distractions, if a film has a forgettable opening scene, or if it doesnt immediately grab viewers, it might as well give up, it could lose them for good. For better or for worse, opening scenes are more important today that at any other time in cinema history.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)So, technically the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan is the one with an old Matt Damon walking through the American cemetery in Normandy, but we all know what I'm talking about here. The opening battle, the storming of the beaches at Normandy on D-Day is one of the most famous scenes in cinema history.

This scene is intense. While it is impossible to convey the true horror of the battlefield on film, the opening sequence might be as close as anyone has come. Steven Spielbergs vision for the whole movie depends on the intensity of this first scene and it delivers in every single way.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981)Another Steven Spielberg entry on the list is Raiders Of The Lost Ark. The scene introduces moviegoers to one of the most iconic characters in cinema history, Indiana Jones, played, of course, by Harrison Ford. It sets the template really for the whole series, even before anyone knew it would be a series or how important it would become in movie history.

The opening scene shows Indiana and his sidekick, played by a young Alfred Molina, searching for an ancient relic deep in cave in the jungle of Peru filled with booby traps. We see the iconic hat and whip for the first time, and the climax of the cave scene, with the huge boulder chasing the relic-carrying Indiana out of the cave, is one of the most famous moments in movie history.

SPECTRE (2015)James Bond movies are famous for their intros going all the way back, almost to the beginning of the franchise, but they really raised the bar with the opening scene in SPECTRE. The movie opens with an incredible four-minute tracking shot in Mexico City at a Dia de los Muertos celebration. The tracking shot begins with a skeleton float and follows down into the crowded streets with Bond dressed for the occasion as a skeleton.

The camera follows Bond into a hotel, past a ballroom filled with revelers, up an elevator, into a hotel room, where Bond changes cloths and walks out on the ledge of the building, with the party in the streets raging below. It ends with Bond looking into a window of a nearby building, just before it explodes. Its an amazing scene, which is really the best part of the whole movie.

The Lion King (1994)Without a doubt, The Lion Kings intro is one of the most triumphant moments in film history. The Circle Of Life, the first song of the movie, sets the glorious mood wonderfully as all the animals of the African plains make their way to see, Simba, the newborn lion prince.

The scene ends as triumphantly as it begins as Rafiki holds up the cub up to the sky as the sun shines brightly through the clouds and all the animals, from the birds to the elephants to the zebras and all the rest of them, bow in reverence. There are not many scenes in film that feel as good as this one does, and its all done before you even get to know the characters. It's absolutely brilliant. Will they be able to capture the same mood in the live-action remake?

Inglourious Basterds (2009)The tension that director Quentin Tarantino creates in the opening scene of Inglourious Basterds is unparalleled in opening scenes. In the scene, SS Colonel Hans Landa, played brilliantly by the great Christoph Waltz, is hunting for a hidden Jewish family on a farm in France. As he speaks with the farmer, the family is hiding just underneath him in a secret basement.

What really sets the scene apart is Waltzs performance. It is pitch-perfect, a blend of gentlemanly grace and sadistic killer that Waltz pulls out masterfully. In an instant, viewers both hate him and are completely intoxicated by him. Its really quite astounding.

Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)Its only fitting that maybe the most popular movie of all time be on this list. Books have been written on why the first Star Wars movie is so good, and it shows right at the beginning, as the Imperial Star Destroyer battles with a Rebel ship, eventually capturing the Rebel ship and boarding it. Of course, thats after the now-trademark scroll introducing the epic.

Its easy to look at the opening scene today and just appreciate how it sets up the whole story, but what is sometimes lost on modern viewers is just what a HUGE deal the special effects were in the film when it was released in 1977. Star Wars was a science fiction movie with effects so far beyond what had been done before on film that it changed the way movies were made completely. Oh and one of the greatest movie villains of all time, Darth Vader, also makes his dramatic entrance, no biggie.

The Godfather (1972)If Star Wars is all flash bang and laser beams, The Godfather is the precise opposite. But like Star Wars, it introduces so much in such a short time that it is remarkable. It opens with a single voice in a dark room and by the time it is over, the viewer already knows exactly how important Don Corleone is.

The opening monologue comes from Amerigo Bonasera, explaining a favor he needs from the Don. In one monologue, he extolls the virtues of America the power of the Don and how the two work together. The Don's response immediately shows just how powerful he is and what he can do, all without hitting the audience over the head with any of it. If Stars Wars is big and bold, The Godfather is subtle and powerful.

Jaws (1975)Yep, Spielberg again! Its no wonder his movies are so beloved, when he cranks out opening scenes like the three on this list. The magic of the opening scene from Jaws is everything you DONT see. Its scary and immediately puts the audience on the edge of their seats, a spot they remain for the rest of the movie.

Jaws opens at night with a semi-inebriated woman going for a late swim in the ocean. She never makes it back to shore as she is attacked by the monster lurking in the murky darkness below. Of course, John Williams brilliant and sinister score plays a part in the powerful scene as does the ringing of the bell on buoy, which cranks the suspense and tension up tremendously. Like any great opening scene, it grabs the audience immediately and Jaws never lets go after that.

Goodfellas (1990)Goodfellas is a different kind of opening scene. Its not over the top in its tension like Jaws or the subtle slow burn of The Godfather, but what it does do is grab the viewer with a question namely, what in the heck is going on? And I cant wait to watch more!

The movie opens with the three main characters, Ray Liotta's Henry, Joe Pesci's Tommy and Robert De Niro's Jimmy, in a car when a noise comes from the trunk, so they pull over to see what the problem is. Of course, this scene is replayed in full later in the movie, with full context, but as the opening scene, it sets up Ray Liottas characters life in an instant. He always wanted to be a gangster and this is a slice of life as one, for better or for worse.

The Dark Knight (2008)Heath Ledgers Joker in The Dark Knight is a masterclass in how to play a modern villain. He is smart, crazy and just unpredictable enough to keep audiences completely guessing as to what might happen next with him. His performance is the highlight of a great movie and his character has become legendary. It has been, and will likely be for a long time, how Joker performances are judged.

The opening scene is The Joker and his crew as they rob a bank. The first shot of Ledger is from behind, holding a mask and hunched over, waiting for a pickup. His identity isnt known immediately, but his brutality is crystal clear as he takes out the whole crew before the end of the job. It is the best introduction to a villain in any superhero movie.

There are lots of other epic opening scenes that are just as deserving to be on this list, like the opening scene of Dazed & Confused with Aerosmith playing, or the chase scene at the top of Trainspotting. Scenes like these set the tone in an instant, but we cant fit them all in our top ten, but you can let us know some other great ones in the comments!




If you're looking to purchase the Lion King DVD movie and you're frustrated with Disney's refusal to make it available except during the limited windows when they choose to release it from the "vault," this is an excellent alternative (assuming you have a Blu-ray player).

When we met Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok last November, he was living the good life as the ruler of Sakaar, but thanks to Korg, Miek and the other gladiators staging a revolution on the gladiatorial world, Jeff Goldblum's character was ousted from power and last seen trying to talk his way out of being killed by his former subjects. If you're like me, you've been wondering what happened to Grandmaster, and now we have our answer: he's moved to Earth. A couple days ahead of Thor: Ragnarok's Digital HD release, a first look at the comical clip attached to the movie's bonus features that shows Grandmaster living with Thor's former roommate, Darryl.

Because Thor was one of the few MCU heroes who didn't participate in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel decided to show what the God of Thunder was up to during the conflict through the Team Thor videos, the first of which was released at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con and the second of which was attached to Doctor Strange's home media release. In these mockumentary-style shorts, we learned that Thor had taken a break from the superhero business and was living in Australia with Darryl, an office worker exasperated by how his Asgardian roommate's personality. In this clip from the upcoming Team Darryl short, provided by USA Today, Darryl reveals that Thor has since left, but due to his a new position coming up at his work, he is now living in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the only person who answered Darryl's Craigslist ad for a new roommate in the City of Angels was Grandmaster, and it's immediately clear that Darryl's in for another rough living situation.

With Sakaar no longer under his control, Grandmaster decided to head to Earth to experience our West Coast culture, which apparently includes learning what toast is. With his assistant/bodyguard Topaz no longer with us, Grandmaster has a new opening for someone to attend to his needs, and Darryl is the man for the job. Darryl undoubtedly is uninterested in being Grandmaster's servant, and you can bet it won't take long for him to grow annoyed by his new roommate's mannerisms and that freaky bust he's displayed in the living room. Seriously, that's the thing of nightmares.

After teasing that last October that he'd shot "a thing" with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi involving a roommate from Australia, it was confirmed last month that Team Darryl would be one of the many bonus features available on the Ragnarok home release. Of course, these shorts aren't canon within the MCU, so while it's fun to imagine that Grandmaster is now living in Los Angeles and getting his Hollywood on, the fact of the matter is that we don't know what's next for him post-Ragnarok. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has expressed interest in Grandmaster hanging out with his brother, The Collector (played by Benicio del Toro), but who knows if that will actually happen.

You can watch all of Team Darryl when you buy Thor: Ragnarok digitally starting next Tuesday, February 20, or you can wait for the Blu-ray to arrive on March 6. Thor will return alongside the other MCU heroes when Avengers: Infinity War comes out on May 4.

Sylvester Stallone Is Bloody And Packing Heat In New Rambo: Last Blood Image

It's been over 10 years since we last saw saw Sylvester Stallone play one of his most well known characters, John Rambo. While 2008's Rambo could have functioned as the finale of this particular franchise, it seems there is one more story left to tell. Rambo: Last Blood is set to hit theaters later this year, and Stallone has continued to tease us with more images for the movie, including this one, which is a picture of a picture being taken of Rambo, armed with a bow and arrow. Check it out.

The picture posted to Sylvester Stallone's Instagram is taken from a much safer position than the one we can see being taken in the image. The woman is standing right in the path of a drawn arrow, which probably makes for an awesome picture, as long as Sly doesn't lose his grip, of course.

In addition to the bow and arrow, we see that Sly's arms are covered in blood. Whatever Rambo has been doing, it's been messy work.

As far as what he's been doing, based on what we know of the plot, what Rambo has been doing is killing members of a Mexican drug cartel. Rambo: Last Blood will see John Rambo living a quiet life on his family ranch in Arizona when a friend's daughter runs a fowl of the cartel and Rambo goes in to rescue her.

Based on the premise, and the title of the film, we can expect Rambo: Last Blood to be a movie much more in line with the first Rambo story than any of the sequels that came after. All of the previous Rambo sequels were about sending a one man army into hostile foreign territory to save one group of people, or maybe just kill another group of people.

First Blood was a movie about a former Vietnam vet who came up against corrupt police officers in a small town, and how that small town became a war zone. Last Blood certainly wants to remind us of that much smaller story, and while there will surely be no lack of action, the stakes her are much more personal for Rambo.

Of course, the title is also fairly ominous. It doesn't imply anything good happening to John Rambo.

As somebody who never felt the Rambo sequels ever lived up to the visceral feeling of the first film, I'm actually a lot more interested in this one than I ever would have guessed. Sylvester Stallone's Rocky movies were always better when they were character stories about a man and not actually about who won a boxing match. In a similar vein, Rambo movies are better when they're about the man and not about the battle.

Rambo: Last Blood has been given a release date of September 20.
