Felicity Jones Wants To Play Her Amazing Spider-Man 2 Character For The MCU

While The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was supposed to set up a larger world for Andrew Garfields Peter Parker, the movie underperforming resulted in Sony abandoning that continuity and striking up an alliance with Marvel to feature a new Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among the scrapped ideas as a result of this decision was that Felicity Jones Felicia Hardy could become The Black Cat, just like in the comics. Nevertheless, Jones is still keen on reprising Felicia within the MCU, saying:

Id love to play her again. Shes a great character. There was never anything written down that that would definitely happen. It was more justI like playing characters where there is a little bit extra to play with and it was just fun to play someone who has this other identity. I just loved the idea of that character, I just think its really fun.

Felicia Hardys potential turn to the Black Cat life definitely wasnt teased in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as her role in that movie was limited to being Harry Osborns assistant and later telling Harry that shed overheard that the special spider venom was being kept in the Special Projects division of OsCorp. This year marks half a decade since The Amazing Spider-Man 2s release, and during that time Felicity Jones has become a more famous actress thanks to her performances in The Theory of Everything, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and On the Basis of Sex. Still, she made it clear to Yahoo Movies that if the opportunity came along, shed appreciate getting to reprise Felicia Hardy and actually showcase the characters duality.

Its not often that an actor gets to play the same character in two different continuities of the same franchise (Judi Dench being M in the James Bond movies comes to mind), and as far as the MCU goes, I suspect that if Felicia Hardy were to be included, Felicity Jones wouldnt be called to play the role. Assuming she and Spider-Man were to have some kind of relationship, the Marvel executives would presumably want someone closer to Tom Hollands age, not to mention allowing more freedom with putting a different spin on Felicia.

However, Sony also has its own, separate live action Spider-Man universe going, albeit without the Wall-Crawler actually involved. Venom kicked off this new franchise last October, and in addition to the symbiote-powered anti-hero returning for a sequel, Morbius the Living Vampire is also slated for release. There were also plans for Black Cat and Silver Sable to appear in a movie together, but it was announced last summer that these characters would instead lead their own separate movies. If Sony wants some star power on its side, perhaps it could talk with Felicity Jones about leading the Black Cat movie. Whether that movie were to confirm that this Spider-Man universe exists in the same continuity as The Amazing Spider-Man movies or not, at least this would be a good chance for Jones to properly suit up as Black Cat and fight some bad guys.

Disney's New Streaming Service May Finally Have A Name

Disney has spoken about their forthcoming streaming service a lot, but one thing they've neglected to do is give it a name. We've just been referring to as the Disney Streaming Service whenever it's talked about, but it may actually have a name which Disney CEO Bob Iger has revealed. He, at least, is not calling it the Disney Streaming Service. He calls it Disney Play.

While no official announcement has been made regarding what the name of the new service will be, Variety points out that Disney's top guy is referring to the service as Disney Play. He used the term during a recent Disney earnings call, which would seem to indicate that it's either the current name of the system internally or simply a name that Iger himself likes. Of course, if the boss likes the name, there's a decent chance that means the name could end up being the actual name of the service.

Although, without any real indication, it's also possible that Bob Iger is using the name specifically because it isn't what the streaming service will be called. It's a way to refer to the service by a short and clear title without revealing what it will actually be called before it's time to reveal the name. It's certainly easier than calling it the Disney Streaming Service all the time.

Disney Play is a decent name, though it's one that seems a little unoriginal. The Starz cable channel, which Disney has an existing deal with, uses that name for its streaming element and, of course, Google uses that name for its entire online store. I would honestly expect something a bit more original from Disney.

Disney Play is one of the more hotly anticipated new online products in recent memory. Following Disney's major acquisitions in recent years including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and most recently 21st Century Fox, Disney simply has the largest library of any major studio which potentially makes the new Disney service incredibly attractive to consumers. While it is clear that not all of Disney's major titles will be available on day one, existing deals mean that some Disney products will be licensed elsewhere for an undisclosed period of time, it does seem like eventually, the service will be the only place to find things like the Marvel Cinematic Universe or anything from Star Wars. In addition to the existing material, a number of original movies and TV series are being produced.

Disney has a massive existing fan base it seems like a no-brainer that the majority of them will be jumping into Disney Play pretty much at day one. The service is expected to launch somewhere in the second half of 2019, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.




Internet reports — cited explicitly by Kayla Cobb in her Decider report entitled, "Does Disney's Streaming Service Finally Have A Name?" — say that "Disney Play" is the app that fans will be downloading soon. "At least that's the name CEO Bob Iger has dubbed the service internally.

We've known for quite some time that we would be getting a bunch of Fantastic Beasts movies, but exactly who would be along for the entire journey was less clear. While we all expected Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander to be there, the rest were up in the air, but it looks like Johnny Depp has now confirmed he'll be back for the third film in the franchise. In a recent interview, Depp stated...

The possibilities in that world are wide open, so you can really try anything. So it was a gas and I look forward to the next installment, which I think we start the middle of next year.

Shortly before the release of the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, J.K. Rowling revealed that this new franchise within her Wizarding World would take five movies. Johnny Depp, for his part, only appeared at the tail end of that movie, but in doing so we learned that another major actor Colin Ferrell, would not be returning for future installments. As such, it was far from certain who would be in for the long term and who would not.

It seemed likely that Johnny Depp would be back for additional films, but that wasn't confirmed previously. The belief is that the rest of the Fantastic Beasts franchise will deal with the reign of terror caused by Depp's Gellert Grindelwald, though since we don't have a lot of details about where and when the other films will be set, it's still possible Grindelwald will be dealt with sooner than that. Alternatively, it's possible Grindelwald might not appear in all the films, jumping in and out as the story requires.

However, based on what Johnny Depp tells Collider he is scheduled to begin filming Fantastic Beasts 3, subtitle to be named later, at some point next year, with the film probably set to open in November of 2020, in order to keep these things coming out at a regular pace.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald takes place years after the first film, and a continent away. It also appears to be much more straightforward in its story. While the first film basically saw Newt Scamander happen into a much larger story about the conflict between the Wizarding World and the normal world by chasing after lost creatures, the sequel will be dealing with the aftermath of that and see Newt take on a much more focused role.

Not everybody has been happy with the casting of Johnny Depp in such a major franchise, so the fact that he appears to be in this for the long haul won't be good news for some, but he has J.K. Rowling's support, and is still a huge movie star, which is probably all that really matters.
